Thats spacious reasoning. The problem is we have recent tossers that (up until recently I understand) cannot handle missing MSGID kludges correctly. Thats just a tad more serious than a missing REPLY kludge. Apples and oranges.
The Fido-web is a wonderful concept... provided dupe-detection works correctly, and I've seen at least two tossers in the last decade that could not do that correctly causing "problems", while a tosser I use has done it perfectly since 1988. I'm talking about code not changed in 30 years.
The thing about MSGID, is that a programmer is perfectly capable of writing a very decent duplicate-detection scheme, without using a kludge, without unique serial numbers, without any of that. Same goes for reply-linking.
You are very smart, you know you could design a better scheme than FTS-0009... so could I.
I do not quite understand how FTS-0009 got approved, because essentially it encourages an ineffective approach to handling duplicates and reply linking. Eventually, that serial number will roll and/or is left to interpretation.
I know, I know... I'm too late and "It is what it is" at this point. I have not had a chance to add REPLY handling to my BBS software.
