I understand that, Joe. Like almost all people here in the west, who didn't bother to find out the Russian version of the story, you are subject to the US version only.
But fact of the matter is, that the present government of Ukraine is *not* what the Ukrainian people voted for. They were put in power thanks to money from some of the richest persons in The Ukraine. And as it happens, just today it was announced that two of the richest men in Ukraine (both worth more than 2 milliard USD) were appointed governors in eastern parts of Ukraine (where the major opposition to the neo-nazi government is located).
Yes, I can understand that it might be confusing when two persons, both named Viktor Y, are struggling for power. One is Russian friendly and one is a westerner.

How do you know that? From western media? Even when you try Google you find no evidence of the bilateral agreement between Russia and Ukraine regarding the 26,500 troops that's been on Ukraine soil for many years now.

That's the old Russia scare from the Cold War once again, Joe. I think that Putin is fed up with all the US interventions in Russian neighbourhood over and over again.
Someone once said that the the US governments, for as long as USA has existed, love to play geopolitical chess. I would say that they are playing American Football (violence) combined with poker (bluffing). Now, Putin has called their bluff, and I think he's actually holding the better hand this time.
