WD> As a subject of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II you ought to know that WD> the UKIP-party in the UK sort of ... did not win the past week's WD> elections ... to use an understatement and the boar who was its leader, WD> Nigel Farage, did not get re-elected in his constituency.
Corrections:
1. Elizabeth
2. Nigel Farrage never had a seat in the British Parliament, but he is still a member of the European Parliament.
Because of our iniquitous first-past-the-post system of voting, UKIP with around eight million votes won only one Westminster seat. Both the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party scored far fewer votes (if member serves me correctly it was around seven million votes for the Lib Dems and only six million or so for the SNP yet the Lib Dems won around ten seats (and lost forty or so) and the SNP won fifty-six seats.
UKIP came second in quite a lot of constituencies.
Though I have always argued for proportional representation (which would have given Farrage a lot more seats) nevertheless I would not be easy with his party having so many seats in Westminster. Do you remember what I said here five years about him?
