Sorry if the formatting doesn't come out correctly but I give below (a) the percentage of the vote for each party, (b) number of votes cast for each party, and (c) the number of seats that each party won.
With our system of voting the number of seats won is disproportionate to the number of votes cast. How can it be fair that UKIP, coming third in the popular vote with nearly 4 million, should gain only one seat, while the SNP with nearly 1,5 million votes should secure 56 seats?
I have long complained about the system we have as it favours just a two-party system but those parties, for obvious reasons, aren't going to change anything. However there is an e-petition on the Internet, started by a teenager, who is too young to vote, to try to get it changed to proportional representation. So far he's got about 150.000 signatures (including mine!).
