Analysing the votes it does seem that most of the serious Brexit votes came from the less well-off working class people in the northern half of England, those that are living in poorer areas. Whether the outcome would have been significantly different if those who didn't take it seriously in the south had voted to remain I really don't know. It would certainly have been a lot closer.

But if it had gone the other way, the poorer people in the north would have been able to say once again that no-one takes any notice of them.

Yes, theirs was a protest vote.

To my surprise, most of the Brexit voters were in my age group and it was the young people who wanted to remain. My great-nephew was so cross that he's threatening to emigrate to Spain!
