No, I know it's not the EU's fault. I was just saying that we have had a big problem with immigration for a long time. We've even put a cap on colonials entering the country (which was very unpopular). But Brexit will not solve the problem even though the sounds bytes of the campaign suggest that it might. There are lots of non-EU people trying to get in to the UK but the thought that we could once more control our borders by leaving the EU prompted the large Brexit vote.

MvdV> We can only blame ourselves. We caused and we have to deal with it.
MvdV> What certainly won't solve the problem is leaving the EU.

But the present would-be influx of immigrants is coming to the UK, not The Netherlands.

MvdV> If the people of the UK think Brexit will stop the influx, it is a

I don't think it was rational thought, because we know that it won't. I think I've said this before, British elections (no doubt like yours) very often are protest votes at whatever situation we find ourselves in. 52% of the British Public thought that this was the thing to do in voting for Brexit.

Anyway, Madam Prime Minister is taking all this very seriously by appointing a Minister and a whole new department for Brexit. She is getting on with it and I doubt that she will delay things any more than necessary.

Like you, we are all puzzled by the appointment of Boris as Foreign Secretary. I did tell you that we hadn't seen the last of him, and this new appointment for him will place him well to succeed Theresa May when the time comes. Of course, our media (and, no doubt, yours) are now digging out all the stupid things he's said over the last ten years or more that will antagonise other nations. But that was his image; he played the buffoon. But don't let that hide the fact that he is a very clever chap and we shall now see a more serious side to him. We've got problems if we don't!
