The same is true in the UK. But I never appeared on my parents' passports - they didn't have any because they never went abroad except to fight in wars and they didn't need a passport for that.
As an aside, two days ago my uncle Harry died exactly one hundred years ago on the Somme. I tried to get my grandchildren interested in going to see his grave but, sadly, none of them took me up on it. They are aged 22 down to 12, the eldest being in the army, so I would have thought at least one of them would have been interested.

My passport expires in 2020. I don't yet know if I shall have to renew earlier because of Brexit. Probably not because my British passport didn't expire prematurely when we went over to EU ones. But then, I suppose this is a different situation.
