I've just thought of my own experience regarding the marriage of divorcees. Both Ann and I were married previously and we were both divorced, though in both cases neither of us was at fault, i.e. our previous spouses deserted us. Neither Ann's Anglican church nor my Baptist church would marry us, and so we had to have a non-religious ceremony in a register office. However my church, although their rules forbade marrying divorced persons, did give us a service of blessing afterwards.
This was as late as 1981.
