DR>> Is it still Kennedy Airport? What was it before? Something like DR>> Idewilde?
RB> No, Idelwild. Which irritated me almost as much as "Saint Kennedy" and RB> the Spacefort in Florida (which I incidently visited several timres.
I've looked it up and the spelling I've found is "Idlewild".
I'm sure that, forty-odd years ago, I saw it spelled as "Idewilde" because I thought at the time that it was peculiar. Must have been some UK newspaper's idea of what it should have been! (I read the Daily Telegraph at the time.)
RB> Remember, I grew up during the Kennedy era (I was in graduate school RB> when he was shot),
I was in my third year as a secondary school teacher (high school). Kennedy was thought to be a Good Thing over here in the UK. But then, politicians are always regarded differently abroad to what they are at home. Well, usually!
