True! My father would spend more time tinkering with the car than actually driving it.
The car he had when I was growing up in the 1940s-50s was a Riley Monaco. First registered in 1933, he bought it in 1936 and kept it until 1963 when he sold it for £25. I've checked with the UK Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and it is still in existence and licensed. It must be worth some tens of thousands of pounds now!
