Shortly after Sweden (reluctantly, based on a rigged referendum) joined the EU in 1995, we were told that we had to introduce a law that basically would be the end of the BBS. The information we sysops had on all our members would be illegal.
Well, fortunately as it turned out, this was once again a Cry Wolf call. My BBS (the oldest still up and running in Sweden according to Swedish Wikipedia) is still operational since 1989, and I'm still waiting for the LEAs here to demand that I give up and erase all the user info of circa 3000 members...
