We were fortunate here in Säve. Suddenly our previously owned Telco (Telia Sonera) got competition. More than five years after they dug all their trenches and laid down all the tubing for fiber (when our electric company did their job) but then did nothing, all of a sudden another fiber company started a sales rush here, wanting to sell fiber to us.
So Telia simply had to start competing for the fiber, after having been contempt with their ADSL monopoly via air copper.
End of the story is that it cost me and the rest of the households here around EUR2000 (whatever fiber company we choose) to get everything installed.

Here it was the other way around. My 8/1 ADSL cost me EUR40 a month, my new 100/100 fiber costs me half of that.
