Up until 1993 the Televerket (state-owned corporation) was responsible for all our telecommunications, and had been so since 1853.
Prior to 1993 I had several occasions when I had to call the Televerket with problems with my land phone lines (at most I had five). We all had different direct numbers to call 24/7 depending on the problem. I usually called in the middle of the night, because that's when there was almost always a technician answering.
After 1993, when our politicians decided to sell out a lot of state owned corporations, we no longer had any direct number to call. We had to call a customers service number open only weekdays 08-17. I had to enter a lot of info via my phone, and then I was placed on hold for 30-60 minutes.
It wasn't always better back then, but in many respects it actually was.
