There is no Holy Grail when it comes to protect you from a fido node going berserk. Yes, it's fair enough to abandon all messages older than XX months.
But there's also taking into consideration that some messages might have been sitting on a node off the grid for a long time and then suddenly coming to life.
So what, what do you care about comments made to what you wrote many years ago? Well, maybe those years made you reconsider your original thoughts? And then you can start a new line of reasoning with newly acquired hind site 20/20 vision...?
