Forgive me for asking, but what has OpenVPN got to do with your dynamic IP? You still will need a different dynamic IP service, OpenVPN does NOT provide that as far as I'm concerned?
I use OpenVPN for my private icloud, and am using a dynamic service (I use dyndns.org) to access it since since it's on a dynamic IP.
Keeping the record up to date, in the event of a changed IP here, will be discovered by the running service on the server, within minutes of the change, and automatically update the record for me. I thought this was the normal and most elegant way of doing it? It's never failed me over the last decade (at least).
A dynamic service can be set up in minutes, and should not require to put you system on hold? Even as a temporary solution?
Or, are you over complicating things (again?)?
good luck
