I'm not into the routing functionality here. I have a dozen or so of these at work running as switches (installed SWOS instead of RouterOS), they do switch at 10G just fine.

Sure. But you won't have a 10G uplink any time soon, even with FTTH. The MikroTik will route and filter 1G just fine. You might even build your own device using pfSense or any other decent OS. 10G ports are available quite commonly on mainboards meanwhile. SuperMicro's A2 series has an Atom-based variant with 2xSFP+ and 2xRJ45... no, I didn't try routing and filtering full 10G traffic through it so far (but I'll probably do that, soon). Sending/receiving is definitely fine, we use that in production.
