However, why should I deny the important role people like Bell, Morse or Edison played in making technology available to many people? That's what Ward is trying to do here: saying there had been other people who did or could have done similar things. Sure, but either they didn't (for whatever reason), or their projects didn't survive very long. FidoNet as we know it is built on the foundations Tom Jennings and others laid. Would you call this "nothing achieved"?
