No, profit maximation. If you buy a model with 3 or 5 years of warranty they will adjust the date in the firmware. >:)
My advice is to get the right disk for each job. For 24/7 usage get a harddrive designed for 24/7. Cheap desktop disks are designed for office PCs, i.e. 8 hours on 5 days a week for 3-4 years.
