It takes two, one for distributing propaganda or fake news and one for believing it. Since we have Internet, smartphones, social media and masses of totally unimportant nonsense distributed via social media people are so overwhelmed with that they have no time for reflection, only for filtering what could be important. In computer speak: input buffer overflow. The solution is to ignore most of the fancy social media.
Regarding the US election, some think it's Putin's strong dislike for Mrs. Clinton that triggered the involvement of the Internet Research Agency in favour of Mr. Trump.
