Maybe it is, but I've noticed that for retrocomputing, BBSes (even with web interfaces to their filebases) are a good way to get 'old' files and old versions of some programs.
And I think a file distribution network is a good way to 'mirror' the files and make sure they are available, even for longer periods of time.
I'm quite new to FidoNet as a sysop and am only starting to think about taking part in the FDN, but I think it's a good idea.
