About the statistics, as Wilfred has shown, he has done a diff between the last two weeks nodelist of nlcheck. Wilfred has eypanded the nlcheck reports and compares the weekly reports of nlcheck. Currently I'm working on a feature of nlcheck to expand the reports to diff'er the nodelist-reports.
About your idear getting reports as a msg to your root account; there are a huge crowd of scripts available, forwarding msg or ascii reports to local users. Most of my scripts are 'sh' scripts with sed or awk. Possibly shell scripts using sed or awk are not available with your linux. On FreeBSD all this stuff is usable by a default installation. ;-)
