Ever hear of a guy now called "Alexander the Great"? He was a Greek who conquered (among other places) quite a big chunk of both Iraq and Iran, and was the only one so far to have conquered Afghanistan. There may have been some who laughed at him, too, but they didn't keep their heads for long.
