Did they even have the right to do that? As far as I know, the "final mile" belongs to Deutsche Telekom, and they have absolutely no interest in promoting competition. Just for fun, you might try asking Telekom whether they would set up a fiber line into your house. They may or may not answer, but if they do, it would be interesting to hear the excuses why that is not possible.
