Hello Bjorn,

HD> Every SysOp or Point can ask his UpLink(s) by sending a NetMail to his
HD> AreaMgr with the commands:
HD> %HELP
HD> %LIST
HD> %QUERY
HD> %UNLINKED

BF> If you, like me, use the original AreaFix by George Peace,

No, I do not ;-).

BF> the commands must be put in the subject line, after the password, as
BF> switches. -R (rescan), -L (list) and -Q (query) are the only ones
BF> supported.

Thanks for showing me that.
Although it is a different way, the result could be almost the same.

At UniCorn BBS Linked systems can get the following message:

*****

Hello DownLink,

In order to use AreaLink to link to or unlink from EchoMailMessageAreas on
my system, send a NetMail message addressed to AREALINK, IMAIL,
AREAFIX or AREAMGR (the name is not case sensitive) on my system.
Do NOT use a combination of these names, only one is enough.
The destinationadress is 77:8500/504 for AcoNet or 2:280/1208 for FidoNet.
In the subject field, place the password I gave you.
In the body of the message, list the EchoMailMessageAreas to which you want
to be linked to, optionally prefixed with a '+',
and the EchoMailMessageAreas from which you want to be unlinked, prefixed
  with a '-'.
  For example:

     To:      AREALINK
     From:    The UniCorn Point
     Subject: my_password
+JUNK[,R[=nn]]        <= requests a link to be made
-SCIENCE              <= requests that the link be cut
=IMAIL_HELP[,R[=nn]]  <= requests an update to be made

When single EchoMailMessageAreas should be rescanned, the parameter   ,R
should be used, the number of messages to be rescanned can be specified.

The following wild cards may be given when specifying area names.

     *                     matches zero or more characters
?                     matches any one character (but not zero characters)
[a-d]                 matches any one character in the range a to d
[!a-d]                matches any one character NOT in the range a to d

Note that you can use one or more of several meta-commands in the
message text; they are not case sensitive. They are:

%INFO                 sends general information (password, expiration)
%LIST                 lists all EchoMailMessageAreas available to you
                           on my system (preferred command).
%QUERY                lists all EchoMailMessageAreas linked to you here
%UNLINKED             lists EchoMailMessageAreas available, but not linked
     %RESCAN               rescan newly added EchoMailMessageAreas
%PAUSE                temporarily stop sending all EchoMailMessageAreas
     %RESUME               resume sending EchoMailMessageAreas after a %PAUSE
%COMPRESS <method>    change ARCmail compression method
(available methods shown by giving a '?')
     %PWD <new_pwd>        change AreaLink password
     %HELP                 this help message
Note that requests are processed top down, so for example a request
to link an area after a +* is redundant

Do not try to Connect FileEchoAreas with this EchoMailMessageAreaManager
Imail, but use the FileEchoAreaManager AllFix for that purpose.
If you do not understand, ask the SysOp.

If you wish to send me a message in the request, write it after a
tear line (---) or the %NOTE meta-command, and after all the link
requests or meta-commands. Or even better, write a separate NetMail to me.

Greetings from: |_|     |\
                | |enri |/erksen, SysOp UniCorn BBS, Arnhem  NL.
