GK>>> We don't have even a single clock in our household I know of that is GK>>> synchronised with net frequency. I don't even know where to buy one. GK>>> DCF77-receivers are so dirt-cheap these days, they're all over the GK>>> place.
AV>> Quartz oscillators are much more cheaper. Also, there's NTP...
GK> Quartz is the lowest standard, of course. However, you can buy DCF GK> clocks at hardly any extra cost here. NTP needs more expensive Wifi GK> hardware, setup, and maintenance. I have a couple of (different) Wifi GK> radios that are all supposed to synchronise via NTP. They even claim to GK> set daylight saving time over ntp. However, not a single one (out of GK> probably 5 or 6 we own) works as advertised. Compared to that, DCF is GK> reliable, simple to use and cheap.
I would like to have a DCF77 clock with quarts and six dixie tubes, because I want to see the seconds too. I have never seen such one. The same goes for a DCF77 red led clock, only 4 digits, but not six! And the ones who had six leds did not have DCF77, arg ;-(. Velleman in Belgium made one with six leds as a millennium clock, so I asked them to add a DCF77 unit with it, but they refused ;-(. Then i donot buy it, and tell everyone about their refusal. If you know of one six led DCF77 clock, please tell me.
Since my Seiko 150 analog/digital wrist watch died after 29 years in 2015, I do not wear one anymore. I am still looking for a replacement.
Henri.
