Yes it works. I was once asked to be the host of an alien net. The aka's for that net are only shown to the members of that net.
When I still used a Hub aka, I supressed that aka for out of zone nodes. Not practical, but as a trial. When there was only one Hub left, we removed the Hub aka's from the nodelist.
