Where have I seen such remarks before, IPv6 maybe? We will probably not live to see thid to be of use for fidonet
But the general idea is that by the use of SRV records you can move services to other hardware without changing the URL:
A second advantage is that as with MX records, there can be more then one SRV line with different or equal levels of priority, allowing for redundancy and load balacing.
It is also possible to change the default port without letting others know.
With the dynamics of renewal if fidonet, this is a pie in the sky and 20 years to late.
