I did something like that for a mysql database with fidonet messages. For the pseudo msgid it was best to only use the message body, without the kludge lines at the start and ending at the end of the origin line.
The kludgelines at the start have no defined order and some tossers may change the order of the kludgeline in in transit messages.
But this method still generates duplicate messages id's for robot messages. For real duplicate checking I included the date written timestring in the test as well, excluding the last character, to cover an old DOS problem, where only even numbered seconds were possible.
