I would not go as far as that, but it certainly does not have as big an impact on connectivity as in the days of good old POTS when mailers directly got their connection information directly from the nodelist. Maintaining an up to date nodelist was important.

My system no longer relies on the nodelist for my 30 or so regular links. Those are all configured in binkd's config. Mail flow will not come to a screeching halt if no nodelist updates are received for eh... eh... very long time. Long enough to wait for Ward's return anyway.
But eventually the contact info needs to be updated or connectivity will degrade by losing links. For hat I need a nodelist.

I don't do facebook, but there are other ways to contact me. Ward knows them.
He could even have crashmailed me directly from his binkp point system. Crashing from a point directly to a node other than the boss node DOES work you know. I have done it many times.
