No doubt that the UK will be worse off after a Brexit. But I am not so sure about the rest of the EU. A Bremain will not be good for the EU either. Much of the damage has already been done, whatever the outcome. Threatening with divorce to get a better deal for oneself is not a very good strategy to save a marriage. The other party may call the bluff.
Also: If they leave, they may come to regret it, they may want to come back. But then it will be on OUR terms...
That will also make any others think twice before they consider leaving.
In the long run a Brexit may be the lesser of two evils for the EU.
