Hello Ward,

On Monday April 03 2017 18:05, you wrote to me:

Let's hope and expect it will not get to that. But lately other things have happened that I neither hoped nor expected.

Mv>> The EU does not want an outside border between Gibraltar and

A border may be what they do not want, but if Gibraltar stays in the UK, there may be no choice. Just like between Ulster and the Irish republic.

The peopleof Gibraltar voted twice in a referendum to stay British. They still wish to remain British, but they were also very much against Brexit. Now that the choice would not be just between the UK and Spain, but bewteen the EU and the UK, the latter implying an iron curtain between them and Spain, the may review their choice. The economy of Gibraltar heavely depends on the EU. Much nore that on the "motherland".

Mv>> Hawks in the UK have already cried war "to protect the people of
Mv>> Gibraltar".

Mv>> The divorce between the EU an the UK will not be a nice "let us
Mv>> part as friends" thing.

WD> I find the whole tone hostile ...

So do I, but to me it does not come as a surprise. The realisation that there will be no "better deal" is sinking in...

Cheers, Michiel
