I am not blind and Richard probably isn't either. And that is not a matter of luck but of proper preparation. One CAN look at the sum with a telescope or binocualars when it is equiped with the proper filters. I had the proper filters. But you only need or want them during the partial phase. During the totality one can safely look at the sun without filters. And so I did. With the filters you can not se the corona or any protubernces. Just watch out for the return of the light.
Did I ever tell you that I studied astronomy as a sideline and that I worked in an eye hospital as a medical physicist?
The university of Utrecht had "the sun" as their object of special interest and the eye hospital using the sun as a repair tool before the advent of the laser....
