I have a number of rules that keep me mostly out of trouble:
* Never fly any Asian airline with the exception of Singapore Airlines * Never fly any African airline with the exception of South African * Never fly any European airline east of Germany/Switzerland/Austria. * Never fly any South American airline * Stay away from low cost carriers with the exception of Ryanair
I have been offered flights on Turkish Airlines and LOT (Polish) before which I refused. As a passenger when booking and they try to squeeze you in a code-share you don't like, you have the right to refuse and get re-imbursed ... at least in Europe that's the case)
The American and european major airlines are OK. Australian and New Zealand airlines are OK.
