That can easily be explained by Bob's American background.
As you know I do spend quite some time in the USA and the political thinking there is really screwed.
Republicans are called conservatives and Democrats are liberal to the left in their realm.
The thing is that I see nothing leftist overthere and even the Democrats, which they call liberals, are so conservative you wouldn't believe it.
Hence anything which for us is kinda conservative towards the center, like the CDU, for them is leftist ... extreme even.
