It is remarkable that the "problem countries" are all the biggest leachers. Greece is a very bad case of that.
Now I have no problem with leaching because one of the ideas behind the EU was that the stronger countries help upgrade the weaker ones to the same level except ... it doesn't happen.
The first weak country to enter the EU was Greece, like in the mid-80-ies. 30 years later their economic situation has worsened despite all the help.
Portugal and Spain followed. Portugal tried well and eventually will be getting there but Spain still is in trouble.
None of the Eastern aquisitions contribute, they overflow the western labour market with cheap labour and export the gains of that again to their home countries where the prices and costs remain low. Tens of thousands of Eastern European lorries litter the highways with drivers whose wages and working conditions are a shame.
