This works here for the message I am replying to; sed "s/\xf6/\xc3\xb6/"
For the previous one (MSGID: 2:203/2 52cba14a) this works; sed "s/\x94/\xc3\xb6/"
Note that the character 'ö' character differs in both of your messages but in both cases are 8-bit characters. In the first message (MSGID: 2:203/2 52cba14a) it is indeed cp437 but in the one I am replying to it is latin1 and not utf-8.
As to the level parameter, it wasn't needed to correct the obvious problem. Only in the first message (MSGID: 2:203/2 52cba14a) was the CHRS kludge handy to know although unused, and totally useless as to the second message (MSGID: 2:203/2 52cba14a).
I am convinced that you are indeed the source for all the confusion about the proper Swedish spelling of the name Björn although a couple of the messages during the voting about this issue were obviously taking advantage of the flaw.
