KvE> Your name first appears in a Nodelist 1997-1-24
That sounds about right. However the first BBS I ran was long before that although it never got nodelisted simply because there were already too many nodelisted BBS's where I was before that time. The only reason I had a BBS running at all had nothing to do with messaging and I accessed other's message boards, some of them Fidonet, for that particular usage. I even helped them out when it was appropriate to do so. However that was a long time ago in a land far, far away. The one in 1997 was set up since I couldn't find one locally to dial up and log into. I am not sure when I first stumbled across golded but I seem to recall it was before 1997. Same with Odin Sorensen. I am sure I was aware of him and his contibutions long before 1997.
KvE> I started using Golded, when I finally bought a laptop
Hm. If I am remembering correctly the first time I ever saw golded was on a 386 laptop. Beats me what year that was or who the laptop belonged to. I am sure it wasn't you though. The name Kevin comes to mind.
KvE> I only care that my unix boxes have the correct time
Same here. Also set to UTC while they are at it. Currently I have one using ntpd and it is willing to share that information with whatever other machine wants or needs correcting. Before ntpd I used to use netdate but I don't recall when I switched. Early 21st century sometime. At the moment I am using the computer that has the worst clock to be the goto guy for fetching and setting it's hardware clock to network time. The other one I am working on has a very good and accurate hardware clock as it turns out and doesn't require the service. I am confident both are accurate to within a second to the rest of the cold, cruel world known as cyberspace.
That is my story and I am sticking to it. :::evil grin:::
Life is good, Maurice
