Hey Paul!

Near as I can tell both "MSGID: 3:640/384 52d204fe" and  "MSGID: 3:640/384 52d20670" are cp850 encoded and Björn in both convert to the proper utf-8 characters.  Other than the obvious differences in these two messages you aimed in my direction I see no difference in the character in question.

In other words, looks good from this angle.  The trouble with Björn's utf-8 messages is the Björn in the header doesn't match since the CHRS kludge (UTF-8 part) doesn't match the Björn in his header which is latin1 in that case.  It does match when he uses cp437 and I'd imagine cp850 as well but your messages don't confirm this since there are no 8-bit characters in your headers.

The one from Nick I replied to used UTF-8 encoded Björns in both the message body as well as the header since that is who he sent the message to.  If he had encoded it as cp850 that would have told the tale.  Try addressing one to Björn as cp850 encoded as well as one in utf-8 and we'll get a better handle on this.  I have a feeling that cp850 might be the best idea for his part of the world as far as being more acceptable to at least one neighbouring country who have at least a few Bjørns I would imagine ... nevermind if they don't call them Møøse.  :-)

Life is good,
Maurice

... A Møøse once bit my sister ...
