I missed this in first reply to "MSGID: 2:280/5555 534abae8" but I notice a <U+FEFF> (aka BOM) tucked in just after the REPLY kludge. Isn't that a utf-16 anomaly? I don't see it in your reply to me with just the Greek squirrels but do see it in your reply to yourself with the Hebrew squirrels.
I saw one in another echo with the same anomaly except it was appended to a different kludge as well as different TID and PID than you. I am guessing it was for the same reason though but it is hard to tell which editor is being deployed to compensate for the claimed one but I am guessing it is probably a misguided MS based editor.
Speaking for myself I am using vim with true utf-8 support which doesn't require a BOM. Same with nano which I've used from time to time. There are ports of these btw so you don't have to resort to any utf-8 pretenders. ;-)
