notepad is doing golded's job and golded is stealing the credit. It is a classic case of cheating.
MvdV> A BOM can be useful as a signature to help autodetect UTF-8.
Perhaps to a braindead application like notepad. Good UTF-8 apps don't need it and have no issues with UTF-8 identification. Even the CHRS kludge isn't required to successfully autodetect UTF-8. However the CHRS kludge is needed for most everything else.
MvdV> Why do you think this is something that needs to be discussed MvdV> with the FTSC?
Because they helped to create this mess and I'd enjoy seeing it truly fixed for once. I still have one other issue to deal with but we'll see how this goes fisrt.
MvdV> how to make Golded properly do UTF-8 to the Golded echo.
Understood. However I don't use golded or any of it's needed cheats to make utf-8 to work. Heck I don't even need the CHRS kludge but I can see where others require something like it to exist. However fts-5003 could use some retooling especially regarding the level parameter. I for one think it should be ditched.
