KvE> that I make a mess of UTF-8
Actually it isn't you but instead a flaw in fts-5003 and implimentation of the CHRS kludge. Ditching the level parameter would go a long way towards fixing it.
KvE> I use golded on Linux system.
Yes I did notice. I am aware of at least one other linux user of golded that corrected the lack of proper utf-8 support by using nano as an external editor for golded, not unlike what some of the MS users are doing with golded and notepad except nano actually is utf-8 compatible. From what I've seen coming from his direction that seems to be the best fix for the issue as of this writing.
KvE> I do have a longterm goal to support UTF-8, but don't hold your KvE> breath.
Understood. So far your latin-1 messages have been fine other than the one that quoted the hexdump characters which didn't match the hex codes as it turns out. The default 'hexdump' (util-linux?) that comes with any linux distribution I have seen just outputs ascii with the hex codes and for 8-bit characters it puts in a '.' character. Same with xxd. That is the safest way to handle such things methinks and is compatible no matter what codepage is deployed on the user's end.
KvE> I have seen them, the 8 bit messages came out well. If you want KvE> them returned, just say so.
Although that wasn't my original intention after seeing Janis' latin-1 reply to the cp437 one I sent, I was impressed despite the obsoleted kludge her software deploys for such things. It was bang on as far as converting cp437 characters to the equivilent latin-1 characters. If you wish to replicate that with your CHRS kludge I would be more than happy to have a looksee at it. At this stage of the game methinks that is the way to go all things considered. I certainly don't mind.
Life is good, Maurice
