It grunged the characters since "MSGID: 1:153/7001.0 53497390" is flying the "CHRS: CP866 2" kludge which other than the ascii text is all 8-bit Cyrillic characters which don't have a latin-1 equivalent. A scan of your reply to it shows "text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1" which matches your "CHRS: LATIN-1 2" but of course aren't the same characters sent. It is similar problem to the 'hexdump' example although in this case the codes and the characters you sent do match. They simply are wrong for Russian text.
