Hey Kees!

KvE> minix had no backup from a corporate entity, so it did not enter
KvE> into our world very much.

In the case of my personal experience, it was mostly due to the lack of suitable hardware at the time as well as the fact that 99.999% of the networking was via the {dumb terminal}/{VMS mainframe} setup especially since all of the meaningful data was stored on nine track tapes and the drives were also hard wired into the same infrastructure the dumb terminals were.  It wasn't until the Sparcs reared their ugly heads before the network was able to liberate itself from the clutches of DEC, as well as backing up the data from the nine tracks onto more up to date hardware.  That was fun.  ;-)

I definetly learned much from the experience most of which originated from ye olde 'School of Hard Knocks'.  :::shudder:::

KvE> After the OS aged, I installed Linux, Sparc is no longer
KvE> supported by Debian.

I was already convinced the same would happen with Sparcs as what happened with Alpha stations before it when the Sun finally set.  With the Alphas it happened when HP bought out Compaq and slowly but surely the servers migrated over to the Itaniums.  Also could mention Cray but that had less impact on the grand scheme of things methinks.  Myself I am blaming HP for the latest (U)EFI boot crap I am currently encountering.  :::sigh:::

KvE> Well if you see what some people still proudly use, Russian
KvE> Roulette seem safer.

Heh, heh.  I still see some of that every now and then.  Speaking of which ...

KvE> My worries are more in the field of OS/2 Warp x.xxx

More ghosts although probably not as vocal and annoying as the DOS based ghosts.  On the plus side, at least the OS/2 based ghosts are 32-bit.

KvE> Well some of these ghosts can be quite verbal at times

Especially when the FTSC elections rear their ugly heads.  I noticed one or two showed up early this year in this echo although they seem to be quiet at the moment.  I am sure they'll be wound up tight by the time of election call.

Life is good,
Maurice

... Don't cry for me I have vi.
