What do you consider "re-inventing the wheel"? Just curious.. revamping "older" software to make it current? I can think of several developers who are doing just that:

Plus there are people working on software taking over for absent authors: Vince Coen working on MBSE BinkD team
D'Bridge isn't the only software that is being updated you know..
Plus... most of above mentioned packages aren't just mailers, they are BBS packages which include a mailer.
There are probably others I'm not remembering at the momemt <g>
