really? what about all the new *nix based systems that use nano or vi or even emacs for their users' message editor? at least they can write and display UTF-8... which is more important?

not over here they don't... they never have... they live with the situation OR they find another BBS OR both... in some cases, they might be able to get their sysop to find a new and better editor for them to use but that won't help at all if the BBS doesn't place the quotes in the temporary message file properly...
