Hello Maurice!

07 Jan 14 15:45, you wrote to me:

MK> I seriously doubt it

Well you are in fidonet, lesser disagreements flared into exchange of words,
that are not part of my vocabulary.

MK> but I turned it back on just because you sound like
MK> you honestly believe your words to be true.

I beleive in prolonged exchange of idea's in a frendly atmosphere. Because
tempers are sometimes easy to ignite, small things matter, as we have
 recently seen in this echo.

MK> Let me know when you discover
MK> the real truth ... errrr ... and what the truth actually is.

That sound heavy, besides everything is relative to its environment.

My take on this is as I said in my previous message, that the CHARS kludge
was developed when the PC was the norm, and the OS was internationalized
within the limits of the system.

Then the FTSC documented the use and realized that there were also
multibyte characterset. So to cope with this future the level indicator
was added. However the option was not added to the software developed
 sofar.

I have not looked into the code, it is quite a bit, but I would not be
surprized if Golded ignores the level flag. So if you expect it to have effect
 you will be disappointed.

MK> It is doomed methinks.  The M├╕├╕se and ╨▒╤Ц╨╗╨║╨░ will back me up on
MK> this I am sure.

It is, but the same is true for fidonet. Well I went to Scandinavia a
few times, I drove from Trelleborg to Kirkeness and the spot where the
border river between Russia and Norway flows into the Barentzsea, but I
haven't seen one Moose, be it with or without slashed o's.

Cyrrilic is probably an important characterset for you, I am sad to say,
the only places where I have seen them used, was on Russian Tallships
during the Sail events in Amsterdam. Usually the name of the ship also had
a more or less equivalend name in the "western" characterset.

Kees
