That is where you are wrong. Example: Frontdoor and Intermail allow the user to define flags and allow the mailer to act or not act on them. This statement in FD/IM's route file:
Send-to INO4
Allows FD/IM to send mail via POTS when the other side can not accept incoming calls via IPv4.
Or FD/IM with a telnet/vmodem shim can be stopped from attempting to call nodes not supporting IPv4 and route it via someone else:
Sent-to All except INO4 Route-to 2:280/0 INO4
FD and IM are both abandonware, but they can be made to recognise ${subj}
