Yes we had that tradition. "Had", past tense.
Traditions come and go, they are not static. First we had the tradition that RCs should not be FTSC members. "Avoid multiple hats"... That tradition was dumped with the nomination of Vince Coen, RC25 in 2008. "We need every volunteer we can get" was the justification...
Vince promised not to vote for himself, thereby creating a new tradition. The one you are referring too.
It did not last long, just a year. Meanwhile the precedent that RCs could be FTSC members was set. In 2009 Ross Cassel, RC18 was nominated and he voted for himself. Breaking with the only one year old tradition. When asked why he did that, his answer was: "because I can".
I did not like it, but there was nothing I could do about it. Of course once the tradition was broken, it would not be fair to hold others to it, because in that case they would be at a disadvantage.
So we had a tradition. Past tense. It lasted a year thanks to RC18.
