Dear Election Coordinator,

With agreement of the majority of ZCs, the ZCC formally disputes the methodology and tally of votes cast by Jon Justvig (R14C) and Bob Seaborn (R17C) for the candidate Bjorn Felten (2:203/2), with the following rationale:

0) The election rules are sufficiently vague/non-existent that common sense, maturity and reasonable flexibility is applicable to resolve this dispute.

1) It is obvious to us in both cases that the intention was to cast negative votes for Bjorn, no matter how his name was spelled.

2) In our opinion it is unusual for a ballot to be only partially accepted and then immutable.  A ballot should be either wholly accepted, or wholly rejected with an opportunity to submit a corrected ballot.

3) The updated ballots posted by Jon and Bob only clarified/removed Bjorn's name, the direction of the vote was not changed and no other candidates were affected.  Whether or not it is allowed for votes to be changed at will during an election ("last vote counts") is neither in the election rules nor applicable in this case.

4) It is neither in the election rules nor generally accepted practice for an Election Coordinator to penalise voters for poor form, manners, taste or the (in)ability to copy a candidate's name from the nodelist in this manner.

At the same time the ZCC deplores that Bob Seaborn and Jon Justvig have bastardized Bjorn Felten's name in a thinly veiled attempt to insult him. We reject such attitudes and encourage all Fidonet sysops of adopting or maintaining the highest levels of social interaction without the need for insults.
