Sure, line-feed (ASCII 10) characters can be stripped by receiving software.
The charcter sequence "<ESC>[" can be stripped or transposed by receiving software.
Characters beyond ASCII 127 may be transposed by receiving software (e.g. converted to UTF-8 equivalent sequences).
The ASCII character sequences "--- ", " * Origin", the like may be transposed or incorrectly parsed by receiving software.

These are all just theoretical issues, but my experience says that some or all
(and more) of these issues would likely arise if not immediately, eventually, by some receiving software that some FidoNet node would like to continue to use. And you could avoid them all from the outset by using Base64 encoding.
